A Guide to Choosing Sports Drinks

April 18, 2009 by aoneinnovation

We are all aware of the importance of hydration when it comes to sport and improving performance. Exercise scientists and dieticians have invested extensive research in this area. Sports drinks are designed to provide fluid and carbohydrate that is easily absorbed in the small intestine.

Sports drinks contain carbohydrates, electrolytes, flavor and other ingredients.

Carbohydrates provide fuel for muscles. When carbohydrate is present in the drink at a concentration below 8%, which is rapidly absorbed by the body. If the concentration exceeds 8%, water absorption is slower. Carbohydrates may be added to sports drinks in glucose, glucose polymers, sucrose, fructose or form.

Sodium, potassium and magnesium are sometimes added to sports drinks and are called electrolytes. The addition of sodium which is said to stimulate the absorption of carbohydrates and water from the small intestine. Most sports drinks contain 10-25mmol / L sodium which makes you thirsty you are encouraged to drink more.

Most athletes only replace half the fluid lost during the sport, so it is important that sports drinks are tasty to encourage athletes to drink more.

Some manufacturers of sports drinks also add vitamins, minerals, proteins, herbs, and sometimes even caffeine. Be wary of big promises.

The best drink for you depends on your personal preferences. Most manufacturers tend to follow the basic formula, which actually reduces to taste. The more you like the taste of your drink instead of drinking and more important to replace fluids.

Get Your Sports Gear; Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Kansas, Washington and Minnesota; the list goes on. Every logo, color, state, team, size and shape is out there. Of course, I’m talking about sports gear.

You can find hats, shoes, jerseys, caps, accessories, tee shirts and more as near as your local mall, sports shop or even the internet. Wearing sports apparel is not a new concept but it is gaining ground. Even the smaller and lesser known teams are hoping people shop for their goods. Naturally, the big teams always have their fans and those that buy their gear, but the lesser known ones are discovering that they too can sell their products and people will shop for them.

The interest in wearing sports apparel just keeps growing and growing. Sports are big business and so is sports gear. Americans love their teams and there sure are a lot of teams out there. Shop the internet or your local mall and you will probably find gear for teams you haven’t even heard of. Sports sells and sports gear is no different. Men and women, young and old normally have at the very least one item of clothing that is sports related. MLB, NBA, NCAA, NHL, and NFL; they all have their licensed gear out in the shops ready for fans to enjoy.

Everyone loves sports these days and even if they don’t, they probably still have some sports apparel. We love the teams; we love the colors, the spirit and everything else about it. Many of the items are the same, but if you shop around you can find some unique sports gear and accessories. It’s nice to be a part of the crowd and have the same shirt or cap that everyone else does but it’s even better to be able to stand out and still show team spirit from time to time. No problem; you can even find Sox tee-shirts (and just about any other team) in pink or light blue or many other colors. What’s nice about these is that they are not worn by everyone but yet are trendy.

Women’s sports wear is gaining popularity. Thankfully there are more shops that are catering to the buying trends of women sports lovers. Accessories based on sports teams including purses and jewelry are making more of an appearance too. Not only in football and baseball but in gear from the NHL, NCAA and more are offering women more choices in sports gear.

Kids aren’t left out either. Even babies have little team cheerleader outfits or jerseys that their parents proudly put on them. Whether you are in Minnesota, Florida, Kansas, Nebraska, Ohio or Colorado (or anywhere else for that matter) you can find both local and national sports gear. Online shops are offering more choices too in sports apparel. Some of it is getting down-right creative and fun and not just the same old thing.

Sachin Tendulkar, a Cricket Legend

March 9, 2009 by aoneinnovation

Sachin Tendulkar was born in Mumbai, India to a Brahmin couple on 24th April 1973. Generally Hindus, especially Brahmins encourage their children for academic excellence. They believe that those who fail in brain go in for sports! This is one of the reasons that India, second populous country in the world does not shine in Olympics. Ramesh, his father defied this logic. Also encouraged by his elder brother Ajit, Sachin Tendulkar started playing cricket in his young age. Though he is one of the richest sports man in the world, endorsing many famous brands and icon of the Mumbai Indian team of the Indian Premier League, still he keeps 13 one rupee coins as treasures which he won from the challenges posed by his coach Achrekar. Initially Sachin Tendulkar aspired to become a fast bowler. He joined the MRF Pace Foundation to get training under Dennis Lillee, an Australian pace bowler. He could not impress Dennis with his bowling performance. Dennis advised him to concentrate on batting. This is the turning point and the cricket world got a legend. Short by stature, Sachin Tendulkar is just 5′4″ tall. Less than 2 times the height of a cricket bat, the top of the handle of his bat should have reached the top of his thigh! This is one of the key drivers for a successful batsman. Nature blessed him this way. Kris Srikant, an innovative Indian captain gave him the test debut to play against Pakistan in 1989. He was just a 16 year old lad then. He slowly built up his reputation and became the opening batsman for India. In One Day International (ODI) matches, he desired to open the innings and was very successful in taking advantage of the fielding limitations of the first 10 over to give a solid foundation in early innings to win many matches for India. Being a contemporary cricketer, his fans expect new techniques from him in the Indian Premier League matches. Handling various kinds of bowling at different kinds of situations are important factors for a successful batsman. He played in 90 different pitches in the world. Obviously he had the trick to defend and attack any kind of bowlers at any point of time – be it in-swinger, out-swinger, reverse-swinger, fast or spin – both in Test Matches and in ODIs. Without such a technique in hand, perfect concentration, physical fitness and good mind set to handle pressures, it would not be possible for him to break and make records – 60+ in all. His records include highest run scorer in Test Matches and ODIs, most number of man of the match awards and man of the series awards, most test centuries in test matches and ODIs etc. The number of runs he scored so far (11th Feb 2009) in Test Matches, ODIs and First Class Cricket are equal to a distance of 1450 Kms. We should remember that the length of the pitch between the wickets is just 22 yards! No wonder, Shane Warne, the best bowler world had seen so far paid encomiums to this little master. Cricket fans all over the world will be very happy that their legendaries will continue to occupy the cricket ground and entertain them, thanks to the Indian Premier League. On an average, Sachin Tendulkar scored 54 and 44 runs before he was given out in test matches and ODIs respectively. In terms of his bowling performance, since he is not a specialist bowler, he conceded 54 and 44 runs for every wicket he has taken in test matches and ODIs respectively. Indian captains, watch out such statistics! From the time cricket started in late 15th century, the game has evolved and transformed in various ways. The current format of the Twenty 20 match is popularized by the Indian Premier League. It has 8 teams. Sachin Tendulkar is the captain of the team, Mumbai Indians. His price tag was US$ 1.1+ Mio in the last 2008 season. Even though he has played for 20 years and is now 36 years of age, he gets overwhelming support and cheer from the crowd for this format also. Though he could not play in the first few matches and his performance was not that exciting in rest of the matches, still the expectations from him for 2009 season of the Indian Premier League is very high.
